Overview
In the 1950s, the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission launched Project Sunshine to measure the levels of Strontium-90 in the human body following atmospheric nuclear tests. Researchers required bone samples, specifically from children whose bones absorb the isotope more readily.
Ethical Breaches
Documents later revealed that thousands of samples were taken from "stolen" cadavers globally without notifying or seeking permission from the families of the deceased.
